When the going gets tough the tough get going!

Ovation Systems' Managing Director, Richard Gregory and Senior Software Engineer Dr Andrew Armstrong recently took to the mountains of the Himalayas in what could only be described as Ovations most challenging FlashBack-3 field test trip ever!

With FlashBack-3 firmly attached to their bikes and helmets, our intrepid duo took to the reins of their Enfield Bullet motorbikes and fought off all weather conditions to navigate the arduous paths and shear drops of the Himalayan mountains. Starting their 10 day journey from Parwanoo in India they made their way through the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh, taking some spectacular footage recorded by FlashBack-3.

Three sample movie clips trimmed from FlashBack-3 H.264 recordings using QuickTimePro.

These short movie clips were taken whilst travelling through the Rohtang Pass, which connects the Kullu Valley with Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of the Himachel Pradesh. The pass which is open from May to November has a reputation for its tight roads and unpredictable blizzards and snowstorms.

Click on the thumbnails to download the sample file (playable in Apple QuickTime, VLC etc). Clips are extracts from the original recordings with a resolution of 720x576 pixels and have not been re-encoded.

GPS receivers were connected to the FlashBack-3s. The latitude and longitude are displayed on the screen together with the height above sea level.
